Q1. What is a Salsa Congress?

A1. A Salsa Congress is a gathering of people that love and appreciate Salsa. Lasting anywhere from 2 days to over 1 week, dancers, musicians, vendors, performers and instructors meet and share their love of Salsa. While there are several Salsa congresses around the world, The Washington DC Congress will be the premier event in the DC area. Over 35 workshops are being offered, with classes that cater to all dancers from beginner to advanced. Performers are confirmed from DC, NY, NJ, PA, Noth Carolina, California, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Texas, Japan, London, and more. Come and dance until you drop!

Q2. What level of dancers attend a congress?

A2. Dancers of all levels and experience will attend the DC Congress. We are working hard to provide a well rounded experience, with classes for the Advanced dancer, performance classes, beginner classes, spin classes, body isolations, Reggaeton, Zouk, Bachata, and more! There is something for everyone!

Q3. When are the workshops?

A3. The workshops are on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 10AM. 55 minute workshops are run punctually, so make sure you are on time! As requested last year, there will be a 1/2 hour break from 1-1:30PM, with classes resuming at 1:30 and continuing until 4:30PM. There will be multiple workshops running simulataneously, so you can go in and out of the workshop that you are the most comfortable with.

Q4. Do I need a partner?

A4. You don't need a patner at all. In fact, very few of the classes keep the same partner, and people come to dance and meet different peopel from all over. Most instructors rotate partners throughout the class, which gives you a chance to experience different leads/follows, and meet new people. come with or withough a partner, and bring your friends, the more the merrier!

Q5. What do you wear to a Salsa congress?

A5. For the workshops you want to dress comfortably. We recommend a light shirt, and light sweatpants, cotton socks and dance shoes. You will be very active and moving around. We also recommend bringing a dance bag with breathmints, a handtowel, a notepad and water/sports drink.

Q6. What will the vendors be selling at the Congress?

A6. Vendors will be providing everything that you need to attend the congress and more. Dance shoes, shirts, peformance wear, jewelry, DVDs, CDs and more will all be available. Most vendors take cash and credit cards, though some may be cash only. Additionally many people use the oportunity to book private lessons with instructors that will be at the event.

Q7. Is Videotaping allowed?

A7. NO Videotaping during the workshops. At the end of the class the instructor may give a video opportunity to attendees at the workshop only. This is the instructor's option, and is not required.

Videotaping is allowed during the night performances and social dancing.
